Just another potential cause for raised crime rates in NYS... How about investing in minds that are not a waste? Individuals whom have intellect, moral character and dedication for things other than "the easy way out"and an unpolluted potential to be upright citizens.People who will be an ASSET and lift up their communities, not get a chance to "restart" on the taxpayers dime. Personally, I have attempted to attain a formal education for YEARS,(after getting screwed over due to a STUDENT LOAN) completing whatever vocational or training program I can get my hands on.As well as attempting to enlist in the miliary (Navy twice, USMC once) working my behind off trying to make it as a single mother so I can give my son a better future. What lesson will giving criminals a free education teach our children? "Its alright to commit a crime, as long as you can get free schooling for it". I cant afford to pay for school, lets go rob a bank and pay for college!!! woooo!!! What makes you think some of those inmates will even take college seriously? They dint even take their life seriously, why invest in their future in such an EXTREME matter? Give them a book club and let them go crazy. Efflorescence does not occur instantly- it requires constant growth and development, Governor Cuomo.

I have to pay for 3 likds to go to school and all 3 have student loans. we work hard and follow the rules and we geno help from NYS. But give the law breakers free college,, makes no sense to me.

This is ridiculous I taxes are high enough and now you want to send prisoners who have made wrong choices who have committed crimes against citizens who are productive they have all opportunities in prison to get GED's into studying my children and I struggle to pay for them to go to college they are in debt up to their rear and Wilpayne back just to better their self and they have never committed a crime whatsoever in their life you are not teaching our youth anything but hey let's commit a crime we get to go to college for free it's an idiot proposal

Why give inmates free schooling? They're in prison/jail for a reason correct? So rewarding them is your plan? Try making them work as factory worker making more products in the USA and maybe stop importing so much from other countries. We import for "cheap" labor well sounds to me like inmates should be cheap labor.

I do not think we should fund college for prisoners when I have to pay for my children to attend college. Why can the honest hardworking families not receive $5000 per year free for their children?
