Criminals are in jail for the purpose of PUNISHMENT. If Cuomo and any supporters of this proposal don't know what that means, they can educate themselves by looking it up in the dictionary. If NYS wants to give away free anything, it should go to returning war vets, who have demonstrated their commitment to the best interests of this country. It should definately NOT go to those willing to thwart them. This is one of the most lame-brained proposals I've seen come out of Albany, and that's saying a lot!

Stop giving criminals breaks!!! Let's start taking care of the people who deserve it...our elderly, our paying college students, the mentally disabled, the physically disabled. This is getting ridiculous...Teach them how to take care of themselves by creating self sustaining prisons.

Nothing like struggling to pay my own student loans and now having to pay for someone else to get an education too. Should I call and harass them daily like my lenders do me?

No to prisoner college education ! I owe thousands of dollars for my son's college education and have a real tough time paying . No help from NYS or Federal goverment. You people should be ashamed of yourself.

Stop rewarding those who do wrong, and those who just live off of the system. Start looking at the honest, hard-working tax payers for some of these breaks, rather than just taking from us all of the time. I work in Human Services, and have not had a raise in at least four years. But you think that felons should receive free college courses. Amazing.

I believe in rehabilitation for prisoners (i.e., classes, seminars, etc.). However, I also believe this effort should not be publicly funded, as there needs to be efforts to help those that are hard-working and playing by the rules. Question: If prisoners can obtain a degree while incarcerated, why can't we just provide a free education for ALL?

Prisoners should not be rewarded with an education when there are thousands of law abiding citizens that can't afford college or are swamped in student loan debt from working towards a better life.

It is absolutely inappropriate to give criminals for free that which the average middle class family can't afford. As if this isn't insulting enough, the taxpayers are then expected to pay for this. Obscene.

Really? lets all be fellons and we can get health care, education even taxi rides all over. Why bother being a law abiding tax paying citizen. It mean's nothing. Mr Cumo why noy help the good kids that can't afford an education, but would like one. Kids that have not recievd a record for rape, car jacking, shooting, burgleries. One of the top things in my bucket list....GET OUT OF NYS. SOON VERY SOON.

I feel that inmates should be rehabilitated, yet not at the expense of tax payers, I do strongly believe that if money is given to aid in higher education or to children who need help getting to that point, that our tax dollars are significantly better spent! Teach our youth to be respectful & respected through the influence of education. They will try harder to reach for the stars rather than reaching for a limb to pull themselves out of self destruction. START TODAY TO BETTER EDUCATE THE YOUNG and we may have less individuals in prison!!!!
