I am a retired teacher on a small NYS pension. I worked for 15 years in private education before joining the public sector. Thus, a reduced pension. Half of it goes to pay my children's loans

they are not entitled to a free college education while young students go into debt up to their ears to get a good education so they can get a good job and take care of themselves. I have worked all my life, did not get to go to college. I will not support anything where criminals get it for free!

This is unbelievable; I worked and took care of two children by myself while in college and I am still paying off my student loans. I am not a criminal and I haven't spent time hurting people to benefit myself but I am stuck with a debt that effects my life everyday. How can anyone think that crack dealers, bank robbers and thugs deserve to get free education when most of them will decide that finding a career with that knowledge will be to difficult and they will end up going back to what got them in jail in the first place or how about use their new skills to pull off different crimes. I say put that money into schools for children who have not decided to ruin their lives. My children are in a school district that has cut basically all its extra curricular activities because of lack of funding; why not give them money??? How about the Head-start program that my youngest is in, they have almost no funding for teachers and supplies, help them out!! committing a crime is a CHOICE being stuck in a school system that doesn't have the funding for proper education is NOT. Making kids grow up with a poor education is how you help create more criminals. Giving college degrees to prison inmates is how you show people that they can hurt anyone and still benefit themselves. We already let them live comfortably with free medical care, food, clothes and shelter instead of treating them as poorly as they deserve; why do we need to waste more money on pathetic excuses for human beings!

I work for a nonprofit trying to help local residents in need and am still paying off student loans 15 years after graduating. This proposal is ludicrous! Let them take on loans l;ike the rest of us if they want an education, but I'm not paying for it - no one paid for my education!
