In Kazakhstan, a significant amount of food is wasted by cafes and restaurants every day. This not only contributes to the global problem of food waste but also neglects the potential benefits that could be derived from these leftovers.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), approximately one-third of all food produced globally is wasted or lost. This amounts to about 1.3 billion tons per year, which has severe economic, social, and environmental impacts (FAO). By implementing sustainable practices for leftover food, we can help reduce this number significantly.

In addition, such actions can also support those in need within our community. The World Bank estimates that around 8% of Kazakhstan's population lives below the poverty line (World Bank). Donating leftover meals could provide much-needed sustenance for these individuals.

By signing this petition, you are urging cafes and restaurants in Almaty to take action against unnecessary waste by implementing sustainable use of leftover food via donations and/or collaborations with platforms that reduce food waste (e.g. SaveIt). Please sign this petition today!
