How can we continue to celebrate a man who didn't covered anything... He represents a history were the Native American were colonist and genocide was the practice.. The Native people of the Caribbean were enslaved, murder and eliminated as socities...Is this something to celebrate. ..No...The world doesnt celebrate Adolf Hilter and his Germany.. why should we celebrate the legacy Coliumbus sheppard..

If the purpose of this is to encourage tourism and economic development I suggest a tribute to Puerto Rico born El Capitán Correa and the defense of Arecibo or the Cacique Xamaica Arasibo for which the town was named or a tribute to la Cueva del Indio. Perhaps a Taino holding a telescope to tie in the Observatory? Even a 295 ft. statue of Myrta Silva would be better. We know too much to create an homage to a false symbol of discovery.

Due to the present economic crisis in the island it would be ridiculous to spend money on assembling this statue.
