It is obscene to spend a cent on a monument to him especially when we have so many needs... infrastructure, education, job development, environmental protection. I am so discussed with the priorities set that extol those that destroy this island and our contemporaries that would exploit false history for personal gain at the expense of the people and this culture.

Columbus is responsible for a culture to go from 400,000 to a few hundred in a decade. He committed mass genocide in his search for gold. Every native older than 14 was given a quota of gold to find per day. Those who didn't reach their quota got their hands chopped off. That is a slap on the wrist compared to what he did to runaways whom were executed. These Europeans also brought disease that the natives' immune systems couldn't handle. We, as Americans, are forced to try to preserve the cultures he destroyed while our children learn the disgusting lie that he's a hero.
