Say NO to a Fish Market in a Residential and Sacred Zone - Tulsiwadi, Tardeo, Mumbai

Why This Petition Matters
We, the concerned residents of Tulsiwadi, Tardeo, Mumbai, are raising our voices against the setting up of a fish market in the Municipal Building of our locality — a move that has severely disrupted the peace, hygiene, and sanctity of our neighbourhood.
What’s Happening?
A fish market has recently been established in the Municipal Building at Tulsiwadi, Tardeo. While markets are vital for communities, this particular location is entirely unsuitable for such an operation due to the following serious concerns:
- Public Health & Hygiene at Risk:
- Violation of Religious Sensitivities:
- Traffic Chaos and Safety Hazards:
- Possible Legal Violations:
The market has already led to foul odours and water stagnation due to inadequate drainage. The unhygienic environment is attracting mosquitoes and pests, putting residents at risk of diseases and creating discomfort for families, especially children and the elderly. There is also a foul odour already spreading to the surrounding buildings.
The market lies immediately adjacent to a Hindu temple and in close proximity to three Jain temples. The presence of a fish market in such a location is deeply distressing and offensive to devotees, violating the sanctity of these places of worship.
The market is located on a narrow, one-way street already congested with parked vehicles. The constant influx of tempos, taxis, and carts for loading and unloading fish has worsened traffic conditions and created safety risks for pedestrians and local commuters.
We believe the functioning of this market violates several civic norms and provisions under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888, which mandates the regulation of offensive trades and ensures market operations adhere to health, environmental, and zoning regulations.
Our Stand – Community First
We are not against markets — we are against their arbitrary and hazardous placement. We are committed to restoring peace and order in our neighbourhood and will pursue all legal and civic channels to achieve this goal.
We are prepared to support and undertake legal action, including approaching the Honourable Courts, to seek appropriate relief and ensure our rights as citizens are protected.
What You Can Do
We respectfully urge the Mumbai Municipal Corporation to immediately relocate the fish market to a more appropriate and compliant area that does not disrupt residential peace, public health, or religious harmony.
