I knew him back in middle school and seemed like a really down to earth kinda dude. I'd rather the school have respect for those who passed away like Aubrey peters, Ashley May, and others.

Seriously, how much of an "inconvenience" is it for you to say 1 more name. As a parent, if I were in the same situation, it would mean a lot to me emotionally to hear my childs name called for something they earned and deserved even if they are not there to hear it and receive their award/diploma.

I can see both sides of this. I lost a friend in hush school, I think many of us thinking back may have as well at some point. A remembrance is needed at graduation. Kids grieve differently and I can see the school not wanting a scene at the school during the call. But a special dedication and celebration at the end the list of names to honor him and to award his hard work, that would definitely be needed. I think the schools approach of not wanting to say his name with no alternative action is wrong and a terrible example for the kids graduating. The lack of compassion is not what the kids need entering the real world. It just sets a crass tone of "well this is it, deal".
