Support Plymouth Neighborhood and Historic Preservation

Please do not destroy the downtown.

Do the right thing...ditch the parking plan....didn't make sense from the get go and is contrary to everything that makes our city a charming destination point. I have NEVER heard visitors complain about parking in Plymouth, including during major events. A parking lot at the major intersection in Plymouth certainly is not in keeping our historical atmosphere nor does it add any appeal. Let's look at long term effect here.

We must maintain the integrity of the City of Plymouth. Too many changes are being made that do not support the historic value of this community.

Demolishing historic buildings to make room for more parking would be like selling a lamp to buy the lampshade. People come for the historic charm and history we have. That can not be traded for a more commercialized downtown.

No more demolishing historic buildings for the sake of parking...maybe use the old Bathey site? You could put a multi-level parking structure there and solve the problem in one fell swoop. Maybe add some type of shuttle service for those who are unable to walk to town from there...or use it for downtown employees exclusively to free up downtown parking space for the public...more parking for everyone and we would be able to save some of the old buildings in town. I've lived in Plymouth off and on for 41 years. Please keep this town from becoming a parking lot..we have so much more to offer.

I encourae the DDA to: 1) Maintain Maple St as residential 2) Preserve historic structures currently within the boundaries of Plymouth's Historic District 3) Find alternative solutions to parking that do not destroy the beauty of downtown Plymouth

There are certainly better and more creative ways to expand without jeopardizing the very things that make expansion desirable in the first place. Do your jobs and find them.

Shame on you. You're going the way of Northville. Continue destroying your history and you will be like any other suburb. You will lose what has made you unique.

Keep Plymouth residential

We need to preserve, and indeed encourage, good built form in our downtowns. Plymouth is desirable because of this built form, and the opportunities for social interactions it creates. Plymouth is memorable because it has what may be called 'good sense of place'--one can immediately recall an image of what downtown Plymouth looks like, and the positive emotions that spring from those memories. It keeps people coming back, whether or not they can immediately find a parking space (there are plenty). Turning yet another block into a parking lot would irreparably harm the character of Plymouth's downtown, and peoples' future memories of it will consequently be as banal and fleeting as those of a Meijer parking lot, or anywhere else in place-less suburbia.

Things have to change. Remember the Daisy factory? Our leadership needs to protect Plymouth's heritage.

I am a member of the Plymouth Preservation Network and former Historic District Commissioner. The City of Plymouth has never respected historic preservation. This has to change.

Please listen to the residents of Plymouth. We cannot afford to lose anymore of our history, ESPECIALLY in the Historic District.

Please keep the commitment to keep historic buildings and not tear them down to be lost in history. While having more parking to support business is a admirable goal please find alternative solutions than just creating more blacktop.
