Do you feel the Sawyer Lake Park’s playground should change the current Loose-Fill Rubber Mulch to a Rubber Pour-in-Place surface instead?

POUR-IN-PLACE rubber surface is found in many daycare and city/ county playgrounds and is favored for its safety, durability, and low maintenance. It costs on average about $10-$15 per square foot to install and can last around 10 years before needing some superficial repairs.

LOOSE-FILL rubber mulch has a low initial cost compared to pour-in-place rubber but has high maintenance costs. It must be raked into place regularly to at least 6inches deep at critical impact areas for playground safety requirements. It should be replenished every 3-5 years (every 10 years for low traffic areas) at $5-$15 per square foot to maintain its appearance and safety. Safety from a fall from a height is compromised when high impact spaces’ mulch is kicked thin by active feet.
