The Visa Waiver Program allows tourists from select countries to visit the United States without going through a lengthy and expensive process.
It is in the economic interest of the United States to bring in tourists from economically strong, stable, and friendly democracies. Visitors from these countries not only create jobs in and strengthen the United States tourism industry, but with the value of the US dollar, generate large amounts of sales in the retail industry.
Adding Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay to the Visa Waiver Program will not only increase the number of affluent visitors from these countries; but, through positive reciprocity will make it easier and less expensive for US citizens to travel to these countries. With events such as the 2012 World Cup and the 2014 Olympics being held in Brazil, now is the time to open up the tourism trade with South America.
