Alternative high schools are an important resource to our communities. Not all students make it in a normal high school for a variety of reasons. Alternative high schools save these kids and help them to have faith and confidence in themselves. Losing Scavo would be a huge injustice to these students and our communities.

This program has changed many lives and given so many opportunities to potential students and had many accommodations that other schools don’t have that helps a student succeed. Please reconsider this decision.

I went to Scavo for part of my high school career. I’m now a successful business owner, a volunteer in my community, and an artist. Without the human interaction element the program would not have made the same difference in my life.

Scavo is a special place, and Iowans should be proud of such a school. Read the testimonials, and you will understand. It’s more of a home than a school. It’s a safe place for children to learn and to have positive role models. Be proud of Scavo. If only all towns/cities were lucky to have such a place.

Graduated in 2018 and went above and beyond to bend to my schedule and make it work for me, would be a shame to see such a resourceful school done away with

Scavo provides some of the most needed and basic services the district’s most vulnerable children require. Childcare, an onsite clinic (that serves the entire district), and specialized teachers who understand the racism, oppression, exposure to violence, neglect and unaddressed mental health needs it’s students have.
Tell me how a a district that cannot properly staff and support it’s “average” risk students can afford to loose Scavo? The needs of the community demand alternative options.
You’re references to having virtual campus options does not meet the core needs of students- a trusted adult who cares.
For many, Scavo’s teachers will provide the one and only experience of a balanced, consistent relationship. These are the things that change lives. Do NOT let these students be lost in a high school that overlooks their right to love, acceptance, time and educators who go the extra mile.
