Leadership has got to go

It is so sad to see that an amazing school like Promesa has been destroyed by politics and poor administration. Promesa needs someone at the helm who understands neurodivergence, and economic and cultural differences and values them. I hope that Mr. Williams will make the right choice in seeing his values do not align with the school or community.

I'm struggling as I write this for a few reasons. I hate to share this anonymously, however, I have witnessed how parents and staff are treated when they come forward. We are a known family because we have volunteered many hours over the last three years. We spend any moment we can at Promesa, although this year we have not had many opportunities to do so. Futhermore, our child will probably be returning because we do not have the privilege to change schools, but we do so with many reservations and heartache. When Mr. Williams came to Promesa, we listened. We took everything in he advocated for, cheered him on, and got behind his values. As time continued, we stayed silent even as we saw things change. The culture was beginning to crumble. One of our favorite things about Promesa was how happy the staff were. It took a bit to get used to it, but once I let go of my own prejudices and began to believe in their mission I could truly see the beautiful community for what it was.  Now, when you walk the halls, heads are down and the mourning of a once vibrant school is palpable. Mr. Williams, along with key administration that are backing him, have proven to us they cannot be trusted. Our once happy child AND teachers are almost shells of who they were, coasting until the end of the year. How can we help YOU, the board, help US, the families? How can we rebuild trust? Or is this simply the way it will be until this school shutters or ends up in public scandal like so many other charters? We urge you to do the right thing. To bring a collaborative and safe space back for both staff and families. 

Promesa is not the same anymore and it’s truly sad. Recent decisions made by the administrators were not smart ones is all I have to say.

As a former Promesa family it absolutely breaks my heart how the school Ambikas beautiful vision has been dismantled. When I finally had hope in our education system, only to be disappointed.

Promesa was our saving grace. My son came from a school the traumatized and abused him. After 2 years of attending Promesa my child is a completely different person. One with spirit and love for school. The way he had been handled in school made it that he grew confidence in teachers and adults again. Promesa gave my child tools that transfered into his daily life and he has flourished. That was until his beloved teacher was targeted and made to leave without a single goodbye. My child now comes home unable to regulate his sadness and frustration. All of the changes and Issac William's mistreatment of staff the atmosphere is noticed and has absolutely affected our children. I can no longer in good conscience allow my child to go to a school where a man can mistreat adults and think that he won't mistreat the children. I would urge the board to reconsider having Mr. Williams as SI because although teachers and students are "replaceable" this community isn't. Consider the demographic and once word gets out parents will no longer be driving in from everywhere. Fundraising will not be as successful from the community. It was only successful because of us. We cared. We gave because we gained so much in return. Happy babies. Happy teachers. Happy us. WE ARE NOT REPLACEABLE.

I'm not sure how much I trust the board at this point either, but I'm tired of administrators that care more about numbers that the welfare of the children. The decisions you have made for the school left me trying to console my sobbing daughter for an entire evening this week.

When you first started, I was all for the change. I was a supporter. Then little by little I was told off what was going on and how you and the principal treated the staff and the kids. I’m just glad I don’t work with you. It wouldn’t have been great. The transparency has been terrible. You firing teachers for wearing a damn t shirt is about the lowest thing y’all have done. Then saying y’all didn’t and bringing others in to investigate about the truth? I’m just really glad I work in Austin and not in town.

Promesa needs to think about staff, students, and parents. The children and staff deserve a safe and positive environment to go to every day. Thank you.

To the Promesa Academy Board of Directors, I've had the privilege of being involved with the Promesa community since 2020 in various roles. I began as a founding family, who took on the responsibility of leading the Family Advisory Council as the volunteer chair. Additionally, I dedicated my time during WIN sessions to work on literacy with small student groups, extended my involvement by substituting across the campus, and eventually transitioned into the role of Family Engagement Coordinator. Throughout these experiencesI've served as a central connection for every family within Promesa. At Promesa, change has been the only consistent element. Both families and staff have become accustomed to the ongoing adjustments in curriculum, programs, and methodologies necessary to meet state standards. The community understands that with each new charter comes inevitable growing pains. Yet, what sets Promesa apart is its commitment and capacity to adapt when things aren't working, consistently collaborating to address the myriad challenges that arise in any educational institution. The most significant challenge this school year has been the erosion of our school culture. What was once a collaborative, supportive, and uplifting environment among staff has deteriorated into a toxic atmosphere.Staff’s commitment to our mission and shared values has been instrumental in our success yet this year they have been told “you are replaceable” and guided to not let “those babies that won’t show growth be a distraction”. I've personally witnessed our current superintendent accomplish remarkable things. I've observed him engage a third-grade class in such a way that the students were eager to high five him at the end. I've also seen him provide invaluable coaching to a teacher, elevating their lesson to a whole new level. Moreover, I find myself in agreement with the majority of his proposed changes. Promesa is not for him, He ruined my family outlook of what this school use too be, my daughter is going on 4 years and we will not be returning cause of all that he has dont

My students and future students will sadly not be returning to Promesa. Everything we held dear has been stripped from my 2 students this year and the upcoming year. We are one of the founding families, the school was worth the drive, even when the bus was no longer available. This year at school has been heartbreaking. Constant lack of communication from the superintendent. Constantly losing more and more staff and teachers who we call family. They have a toxic environment to work in due to the superintendent. We used to be able to have lunch with our students, now we're not even allowed to bring Easter baskets to them. Constantly told to have grace when more and more things were stripped from my students education instead of having input on anything moving forward. I used to come in after letting the teacher know and help clean the technology after dismissal as it's NEVER cleaned otherwise. Now I can't unless I schedule weeks in advance and the teacher has to get approval. We have a strong community and instead of working with us the superintendent has come into the school and destroyed everything that made Promesa. My young twins know all the faces Promesa used to have but sadly won't be able to experience the education and love it had before the start of this year.

I wholeheartedly believe this petition was needed and feel that the board should follow through.
