Whiteface Mountain’s management has decided to save money by eliminating Nastar public ski and snowboard racing this season.  At the same time they are increasing spending on terrain parks by taking over the popular mid-mountain intermediate Broadway trail.

Whiteface was the #1 in the USA in Nastar participation last year as measured by Nastar runs per skier day.  Nastar is part of the ski racing heritage dating back to the 1980 Olympics.  It is a very important element in exposing the local children to ski and snowboard racing to follow in the footsteps of other Lake Placid Region athletes  that have gone on to race on the US Ski Team.  Tourists love the Olympic connection that Nastar offers them as well.  To learn more about Nastar go to www.nastar.com

Whiteface is a NY state owned and operated ski area.  In this challenging economic environment they are facing some tough choices.  The Park and Pipe budget dwarfs that of Nastar so the sensible place to cut back is in the Park and Pipe budget not Nastar.  Why have 3 or 4 terrain parks but no public racing area?

Please sign this petition to allow Whiteface's management to understand how much you value the Nastar experience on our mountain.

You can also write Bruce McCulley, Mountain Manager an email expressing your displeasure at his decision.  He can be reached at ski@whiteface.com
