I wish to register my objection to the proposals for variations in fire cover arrangements contained in the latest Integrated Risk Management Plan, which is within the Strategic Plan. In particular, the closure of WALTHAM COMMUNITY FIRE STATION.
Cuts and closures increase the risk to public safety and everyone knows it. We need firefighters as their rescue responsibilities are greatly increasing. The effect of global warming is now having a direct impact on the world we live in as the flooding in 2007 proved. The fire and rescue service is a strategic safety and rescue resource which ensures a high degree of public safety, and these cuts will have long-term and serious consequences.
The longer it takes to get to an emergency the greater the risk to those needing rescue. To reduce the number of frontline firefighters and fire appliances will have a direct and serious impact on safe working at incidents. Firefighters will be left in the impossible position at incidents of either standing back and waiting until the necessary resources arrive and risking the public, or ignoring basic safety procedures and risking their own personal safety and that of their crew members.
I do not support an initiative that closes WALTHAM COMMUNITY FIRE STATION and reduces the fire cover, which will ultimately cost lives! I would therefore be grateful if you would get clear assurances from Humberside Fire Authority that WALTHAM COMMUNITY FIRE STATION will not be closed - I look forward to hearing from you.
