We the undersigned deplore the action taken by this university (University of the West of England) to close recruitment to all undergraduate specialist language courses with immeadiate effect. We particularly deplore the indecent haste with which this decision was taken and implemented. We deplore the lack transparency in the decision making process and the breach of commitment to students who have already accepted unconditional offers for September 2009.
The administration has received our formal request for a meeting to discuss the closure of language courses. Your signatures have provided the necessary leverage to demand a full explanation for this sudden policy change.

The response to this petition has reached a level of momentum that confirms the significance of our cause. This collective insistence on transparency is the necessary foundation for our continued efforts to hold the university accountable.

Total lack of transparency here. Everyone deserves better than this treatment.

This is completely unfair to the students who already accepted their offers. UWE should be ashamed of themselves.

Education is about more than just numbers. Languages are vital for culture and future jobs. Stop this.

Ridiculous decision. Languages are so important in the modern world and cutting them is a big mistake.

Unbelievable. Dropping these courses like this with no warning is just plain lazy management.
