We, the undersigned, hereby urge the College administration to repeal the tuition waiver administration fee. We object to the imposition of unreasonable charges that penalize academic achievement and obstruct the pursuit of higher learning. We find the tuition waiver administration fee in flagrant violation of the College’s seven Core Values, particularly its commitment to honesty and integrity.
In June 2013, Black Hawk College instituted the “tuition waiver administration fee.” Charged at the rate of $15 per credit hour, the College assesses this fee to apply scholarships onto students’ accounts. According to one official at the College, this application of scholarships (also known as tuition waivers) is a “manual process,” and as such, necessitates such a surcharge. However, not all of us in the college community see it this way. This petition and its accompanying movement, "Save the Scholarships," promises to mobilize a grassroots, student-led campaign in pursuit of the repeal of the tuition waiver administration fee.
