Mark's work is profoundly powerful and can ignite many emotional responses. However, I find his critics fixation on sexual perversion and genitalia extremely disturbing. Human sexuality is NOT defined solely by sex, but rather by how one perceives themselves in relation to the world and to others, and how they make a connection. I feel Mark's sculpture of the Blue Human Condition (like many of his works) is a reflection of how we connect (or not) to one another and to the world, whether it's empowering or disturbing. But isn't that the point of any artistic expression - to evoke a response or reaction, to make us think, to force us to examine our own attitudes and beliefs...

Well put Mr. Jodis. I fully agree. So sad we continue to defer to those minds that can only look for negative aspects in life.

Unfortunately, these people have a problem. A sexual problem. They must not be getting enough at home. I am sorry if that is graphic, but, come on, I see nothing "sexual" about this piece. Some people are ridiculous .

I think the piece represents interdependence - an important human value. It is inappropriate to perceive it a sexual. Let's not defer to those who would cheapen its meaning.

How sad that instead of wishing to learn-even to request a plaque for meaning or information about the artist and what they wish us to consider regarding their art-people choose to remain ignorant, afraid and shun the unknown. Actions like these leave no room for growth.

I totally agree with you marty marks. This is how I portrayed this piece of art independence in different levels we go thru. I'm very happy to hear there will be a petition for it. I just can't believe there was ppl who looked at this as sexual. It just goes to show how simple minded folks in adrian and the surrounding areas can be.

I ponder to think what the concerned parents have exposed their children to that would provoke impure thoughts of this piece.
