Save the Bean Sprout
In times such as these it is the fate of man to be afforded a destiny that will shake the foundations of the earth. Greatness is within all who choose to act, and as the machination of our glorious campus draws nigh it is left to you to see that our way of life is duly preserved. What is this mechanizing evil of which this petition speaks, you ask It is the utter desolation of the McGlothlin Campus Center basement. "The Man" has seen it fit to transmogrify our beautiful Bean Sprout and Bowling Alley area into an emaciated complex of dingy office buildings and dungeon-esque cubicles. The reasoning behind this stampede of destruction seems to be that the good old sprout isn't drawing enough business to make itself an efficient institution. It seems understandable with the new $3.6 Million improvements to The Bean that sales would drop, but that doesn't justify whats been done to the sprout. ACU has been sapping the very soul of this place for years now, it used to be an oasis of excellent service, delicious food, and traditional, friendly atmosphere. Now, it is nothing more than the discarded shell of the once promising little seed it used to be. This petition is an offer, an offer for you to believe that we can revive the Bean Sprout. Knocking it down and turning it into office space is most definitely not the answer. As Thomas Pain once said, "THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as [The Bean Sprout] should not be highly rated." The Bean Sprout is Like the Cheers of ACU. You walk down and with a warm smile Art asks, "what can I do you for" Then, you sit down with your friends at the bar, or tuck yourself away in the booth at the corner and enjoy a good meal in a relaxed and secluded atmosphere. We can't let these days of beauty become a haunting specter of a regrettable past. The time to act is now! It's time to restore the Bean Sprout to its former days of glory when it offered a cornucopia of different foods,desserts, and never ending memories. Sign this petition to make your voice heard!
