For several years now I've noticed that the phrase "thank you" has been disappearing from the retail customer service lexicon. It used to be that when you completed a business transaction with an establishment you would receive a gracious acknowledgement of your decision from the salesperson or cashier.
Unfortunately, that concept is fleeting...
But don't take my word for it. The next time you complete a purchase, whether it be for a cup of coffee or the latest electronic gadget, listen for the "thank you". It's most likely you'll receive a "there you go" instead.
