Auditioning speakers for graduation is ridiculous. This young lady deserves the honor of speaking at her graduation. Shame on the facility and staff of Freedom High School!

Why is everyone trying to reinvent the wheel? In the name of being progressive? I'm sure if the young lady was able to work her butt off enough to EARN the title of valedictorian she can do her peers justice in having a week to prepare a speech. You are not doing her a favor by "removing the stress", quit being a bunch of over thinking morons and let the girl speak....she EARNED it!

Every Valedictorian should be allowed to make a speech to their fellow students. It's absurd to say that they're not given enough time to write a speech from the time they're selected to ceremonies. Those students know whether they're in the running and should prepare. Being prepared is what got them through High School with honors. It's just another ridiculous excuse from Loudoun County Schools. Please allow Shannon her time to shine and proudly address her class at ceremonies.

Just because I was one of the top public speakers at my school (and in the entire region) when I was in high school did not give me the right to take away that honor from our Valedictorian, who more than deserved that honor. Most students would love to give a graduation speech. It is the Valedictorian alone who earns that right, and it should not be taken away.
