When I gave my speech it was everything to me. To have this stripped would be heart wrenching. You deserve to do this ans youve worked for it. I'm proud of you. Keep striving. You are great!

The Valedictorian should be allowed the honor of addressing his or her graduating class unless they choose to decline the opportunity. If the school wants to give another person the opportunity they are more than welcome to hold an audition to decide but it should be in addition to the Valedictorian's speech. IMHO

The Valadictorian in every class should get to speak at his or her graduation. It is a most firmly established tradition. Only in cases where that person declines to speak should that be allowed. A speaker chosen through auditions may also have worthy remarks to make, but that should not exclude the Valladictorian.

Honestly if the policy change was really about sparing students the stress of finding out who is valedictorian how have you helped prepare them for the stress of actual adult life?

Shannon, congratulations on achieving such a honor! I support this petition for you to address the 2015 senior class at Freedom High School as the Valedictorian! I commend the committee for thinking outside the box; however, recommend adjusting the ceremony schedule to accommodate two speakers- to include the deserving class Valedictorian's Farewell address. All the best!

shannon, i know that you are a committed and a very hard working and a talented person. your speech can be truly inspirationaI, I,therefore feel that it is in the best interest of the students that you should be given the chance to speak.

As a Loudoun county resident, I am appalled at the decision to disenfranchise this student. Mendez has earned the right to be valedictorian and should be able to speak. Any action to silence her will be called out for the racist and intolerant action it is.
