They actually backed down and the plans for the parking on the green are officially off the table which feels completely surreal. I am honestly just so relieved that we saved that space and I hope everyone knows how much I appreciate the support because I was definitely worried it …

Recently Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council approved a change to Sandycove Green, where the wider part of the footpath facing Newtownsmith will now be used for car parking.

To do this they will have to demolish the current wall and significantly widen the existing path so it can accomodate cars and also a new inner footpath, seriously reducing the size of the green itself.

Adding these spaces will only benefit a few local residents who have persistently lobbied the council, despite the limited resources available in this economic climate, and despite the fact that the money could be much better spent restoring the local baths - or for any number of more worthwhile purposes.

The green is a public amenity and should be available to all for recreation, sport, and of course the various fairs, markets and festivals that are staged throughout the year. These events bring in valuable revenue to the area and add to Sandycove's reputation as a local beauty spot.

If you agree that the green should be protected from this and also future development please sign this petition - let your voice be heard!

Thanks! Lou :-)

I honestly cannot believe how quickly this is taking off and it makes me think maybe the council will actually have to listen to us for once because this green is just too important to lose to a few parking spaces. I keep checking the site and seeing all these people who care and it is honestly such a huge relief to know I am not the only one obsessing over this stupid wall idea.

Seriously? Another bit of public land being paved over so a few people can park their cars. So sad for Sandycove.

This is absolute madness. Keep the green how it is it is one of the only nice spots left in the area. Leave it alone!

Dont touch the wall! Its part of what makes the place look nice. Money should go to the baths instead of ruining the park.

Typical council mess. Waste of tax money when we have actual problems like the baths needing repair. Hands off our green.

Used to play here all the time growing up. Breaks my heart to think they want to turn it into a car park.

Ridiculous decision by the council. We dont need more parking we need the green space for our kids to play on. Stop this now.
