In my opinion amalgamation of art schools would not create a space of excellence but would suppress the individuality of diversities that separate school provide.

Canberra has less than 10% of Sydney's population and one art school. Hobart is smaller than Canberra and has one art school. Until recently Sydney had four art schools and numerous TAFE programs. How can Australia's largest city lead creativity and innovation with one art school? Without art education choice and realistic funding, creativity and innovation are hollow corporate buzzwords. SCA is one of our existing centres for excellence. KEEP SCA.

We need MORE access to arts education in NSW, not less. The destruction of fine art in TAFE is awful, the forced closure of SCA is just too much.

I don't think I even have the words to describe how ridiculous this decision seems to me. What on earth is the point of a world where we no longer value the exploration of imagination and what it means to be human.

A diversity of approaches by each teaching institution leads to strength in any discipline including art. We can't afford to lose one of the main art schools in Sydney.

I studied at SCA for 6 fabulous years and had the opportunity to gain a world class education by some of the countries leading contemporary artists. To deny others an opportunity to experience and gain a world class education is simply not a option

This art school has the potential to be a draw-card for artists and students worldwide. The program can and should be expanded to include a vibrant international residency program, more local community programs and of course, national affiliations. The entire Callan Park site can be included in an enriched social program centred around arts and health - in my opinion, mental health. This dismantling is socially criminal! This dismantling is socially irresponsible to say the least! This dismantling signals a callous and ignorant focus away from the glaringly obvious issues plaguing society in the form of youth suicide, delinquency, depression - all stemming from structural problems with our institutions. Education is NOT a business. Art is NOT a business. The human psyche is NOT for sale nor quantifiable in these terms. Studio-based practice is the future of ALL learning and as such should not only be kept alive where it currently exists but expanded into all areas of education. Denmark has led the way with this model with astounding success. We do NOT need an American model of education - or society. We need a Uniquely Australian one.

As a past student of SCA I feel this is outrageous. I also feel terribly sad and concerned for the future of Australian art and culture. This is a step backwards and incredibly embarrassing for our international image..... We should be fostering the arts not constantly cutting and redusing to next to no diversity of education.
Sure progress and changing with the times is the way forward but this is not the way. We should be offering new classes on each campus in their own unique ways. What will happen to my lecturer's????! Will they be offered new jobs, will every student be welcome to NSW university??????! Including the TAFE students that had their Fine Art courses cut too. Doubt it.
