Hello Everyone, I am starting this email to create a petition that will hopefully help aide the Riverside Adult School in staying open and to stop the Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) Board of Education and the Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) from making rash and harsh decisions that affect the Adult Education Population within the city of Riverside. Recently the BAC has recommend to the Board that they cut 90% of the Riverside Adult School (RAS) Reserve Budget. Currently the budget needed to run the RAS program is approximatley 4.5million dollars a year; the Board of Education has recently approved cuts of approximately 870K for Riverside Adult school for 2010-2011 above what was cut from the current school year. With the BAC recommendations for the next Fiscal School year it would basically leave the Riverside Adult School with a little over 3.0Million dollars of operating budget 10/011. Currently as I am writing this to you RAS at the 2/3 mark has already allocated 4.5million for this year 09/010. With this in mind there is no way to run a program without cutting another 30-40% in personell cost; as of this message RAS has already cut their programs for Older Adults, Adults with Disabilities, and Careeer Technical, with an addition of 35% staff reduction. With the BAC & RUSD proposed cuts it would amount to approximately 75% of staff reductions, and a little over under 1/4 worth of operating budget. With these approximations there is just no way for RAS to have a successful Adult School program within the city of Riverside. WE ARE ASKING EVERYONE to sign this petition asking for the Board of Education, RUSD, and BAC to not allow any more cuts to the riverside Adult School Budget, so that we can continue to have Adult Eduction in the city of RIverside. The Board of Education, RUSD, and BAC are basically using the funds from RAS as stop gap measures toward fixing their deficit of 33million dollars, but in the process people will be loosing their jobs, and Adult School Students will loose their opportunity to become effective community members, parents, and tax paying citizens.
