We, the undersigned, call upon our elected officials representing the Pasadena Unified School District and the communities of Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre to more strongly advocate for the funding necessary to save our public schools from devastating layoffs that will severely impact students. Nearly 200 teachers, librarians, and other vital staff will lose their jobs at the end of June unless something is done now. This will mean that when school starts this September, students will be in overcrowded classrooms, school libraries will be closed, art and music classes will cease -- and more.

The majority of our community voted Yes on CC, a ballot measure that would have provided $7 million to help this situation. In these times, however, 54% is not enough.

Our community is vibrant. There is wealth and creativity here. Sign this petition and let your representatives and local media know that a community that leaves 19,000 children and youth without the means to a quality education is a place that is not living up to its ideals.

Sign your name. Tell your story. Give us your ideas. If we work together, we can find solutions.
