YOU ARE HERE BECAUSE YOU CARE AND WANT TO SAVE POUCH CAMP
On November 24, 2009, the Greater New York Councils’ Board of Directors of the Boy Scouts of America announced that they have decided to explore the sale of part or all of the William H. Pouch Scout Camp on Staten Island.
This 120 acre property, located in the heart of the Greenbelt, must be saved!
You have probably enjoyed many hikes and camping trips at Pouch Camp or maybe you just enjoyed driving past it. You know that it is an important part of our borough and especially the scouting community. I urge you to help save this property and sign this petition. This property has touched the lives of countless young people (and old) for decades. It helps make up what is known as the Greenbelt and a private sale and possible development would destroy the Staten Island we know today and the Scouting program.
This petition will be sent to Governor David Paterson, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, US Senator's Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, Congressman Michael McMahon State Senator Andrew Lanza, State Senator Diane Savino, Assembly Members Cusick, Titone, Tobacco and Hyer-Spencer, Borough President James Molinaro, Council Members Oddo, Ignizio and Mitchell, as well as Council Member-Elect, Debi Rose. The petition will also be sent to the Boy Scouts of America, Greater New York City Council (GNYC), NYS Parks Commission Carol Ash and NYC Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe as well as the Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith.
The first set of petitions will be sent via email and hard copy on December 16, 2009 to the above referenced officials.
We urge all officials to work together to find and allocate the money needed to purchase a conservation easement from the Boy Scouts of America, GNYC, to save Pouch Camp.
Only your Name and Comments will show to the public - your email, address and other information is hidden.
Let's save Pouch Camp before it is too late!
We are approaching the one thousand signature milestone for the preservation of Pouch Camp. Please encourage those in your network to sign this petition so we may present a unified front to the decision makers.

Disgraceful. My brother was an eagle scout and that land meant everything to his troop. Stop the sale.

Used to take my kids there all the time. Such a shame they want to sell off our green space just for money.

My son had his first camping trip here. You cant just replace 120 acres of forest with more traffic and condos. Leave it alone.
