Portland Works is home to thriving creative and specialised industries, some of whom have been based in the works for over 40 years... A planning application to convert Portland Works into 64 tiny flats has now been submitted... For many this would mean the end of their business and the loss of their skills as it would be prohibitive to relocate their specialist equipment... It would also be the loss of a community of people based in small studios and workshops who 'rub up well together'.

The planning application remains under review while I continue to correspond with the council regarding the unique value of these workshops. I appreciate the personal accounts many of you have shared about the role Portland Works plays in our local economy.

The momentum behind this effort has grown into a powerful testament to the value of our community. It is clear that the preservation of Portland Works is a priority for many who recognize the importance of these specialized industries.

My grandad worked in places like this. You cant just replace real industry with generic housing. Keep it as it is please.

We need skilled trades in this city, not more tiny flats. Hands off Portland Works.

This is absolute madness. Those workshops are the heart of the area. Leave them be!

Keep history alive instead of just building more pointless apartments nobody can afford anyway. Portland Works is a massive part of our city.
