PCMH is a small, but important institution for the town of Grinnell, and also for the College. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION TO RESTORE FUNDING TO PCMH and restore services to its clients and jobs to the employees. BACKGROUND Currently, the organization is facing imminent termination of funding and likely will shutter its doors. This was officially scheduled for April 12, 2013. Staff, excepting doctor(s) and certain social workers, will lose their jobs - period. I am not privy to the details of PCMH's funding sources. However, I know that the Federal government plays a role, if indirectly through the State of Iowa. In a nutshell, Poweshiek County Mental Health will shut down due to monetary restructuring related to the Affordable Health Care Act of 2009 (H.R. 3962). Unfortunately, such is the opaque nature of this huge legislation that the name belies what the law actually does. Funding is the problem. Sample comments from clients: "Everyone was extremely helpful, polite, and kind" "When I come in, the office staff always have a welcoming smile and say hello" "The staff has been extremely courteous and understanding" "My counselor is very helpful and shows great care and interest in my problems" "Much better services than anywhere else I've been" "Mental illnesses affect women and men differently — some disorders are more common in women, and some express themselves with different symptoms." "Just a big thank you to the staff here."
