TMM is always a must see when we take our great nieces and nephews to the UT campus. To lose this valuable resource would deminish UT itself. "What happens here changes the world" - not without this museum.

museums are repositories of our history of biodiversity. Refusing to take care of valuable specimens in collections is saying we have absolutely no regard for our natural heritage.

It's a tourist draw to Austin as well, and the location brings visitors who also see the capitol and the art museum. Perhaps funding could be added by using one of the rooms as a conference room, or offices for government spillover. Or use some areas for classes - the imax theatre would make excellent seating. Perhaps a non-university art school could be taught there. Or maybe the city funds for its tourist draw. These are probably already considered by the dean, but I'll put them out to encourage thoughts from others that may be even more useful.

When my kids were little, my wife and I took them to the TMM on numerous occasions. It was the first place they saw dinosaur remnants and it was an all-around wonderful family activity.

The worldwide extinction crisis is one of the greatest issues facing humanity. Natural history museums comprise an essential part of our collective scientific heritage that can help us understand and address the biodiversity crisis. Museums are needed now, more than ever before.

As much as I cherish this museum on a personal level, I most fervently support its continued inclusion in the University of Texas budget as a science educator. It is one thing to allow students to passively see the incredible specimens on a field trip, and quite another to have them engage with staff who answer their questions and demonstrate how scientists work and use the collections in the paleo lab. The museum staff also offers affordable science outreach programs to community schools, hosts events at the museum that introduce children and their parents to the wonders of our earliest history, and has a presence at local events and education conferences. These will cease to exist if the museum loses its funding. And perhaps the greatest contribution of the fine education staff in the last several years is their creation of professional development opportunities for teachers in the state of Texas--simply the best available! As teachers return to the classroom and implement the inquiry-driven lessons, they reach countless children. This is not the time in our state to do anything that diminishes science education.

I strongly support the petition not to close this museum. Museums preserve not only nature but also men's history. We must not turn this down, defunding of culture and science must not happen in an educated nation like the U.S.A. is.

I have been coming here since I was a kid. Now that I'm a nanny, I take the kids. We love it here! It shows the kids science and natural history are fun and interesting, which is priceless!
