In this densly populated city, the green lung that is Southsea Common is of paramount importance to residents and visitors alike. It is a recreation area,a viewing platform for the Solent but most crucially for a lot of residents of the city it is their back garden. It is time Portsmouth City Council looked carefully at their parking arrangements and stopped encroaching on this listed open space that is highly valued by our community. Visitors and residents don\'t come here to enjoy a car park but to have a picnic fly a kite, kick a ball around or just relax. So we hope you will add your name to our petition to keep cars and parking meters off our common.

Flick Drummond and Linda Symes are the sponsors of this petition. We believe passionately that this open space should be kept free of cars and parking meters. Most residents and visitors when surveyed put forward the same view, so we would like you to sign the petition so that we can present it to Portsmouth City Council to show them the strength of feeling of local residents and visitors to the city.
Most other cities support a park and ride system that enables them to bring visitors into the city, which in turn reduces the carbon footprint. As our population increases and we have to accomodate more residents it is essential that our open space is respected and kept free of vehicles
