Victoria University has undertaken a number of reviews associated with the way in which it offers services within the institution. As part of this the University, namely Professor Peter Creamer, is about to consider the delivery of childcare services offered through Children’s Centres at the Footscray Park, Footscray Nicholson and Werribee campuses. The aim of the review is to analyse the effectiveness of these services, and to benchmark the offerings with similar operations over the next few months. It became apparent at a parent meeting on Thursday 24 October that the privatisation of the University's children's centres is a very strong possibility, as it is not 'core business'. This is not an acceptable option! We need your support! The Children’s Centres are an integral service the university offers to staff and students, not to mention the local community. Outsourcing the centres, will only lead to an increase in prices and a decrease in quality child care. We as parents put a huge amount of trust in the staff – trust they have earned – to help raise our children. We are the customers and we are extremely happy with the service and don’t want change. It may not be ‘core business’ according to the Senior Leadership Team at Victoria University but the children and their start in life is our core business. The are learning every day, they may not have student numbers, but their lifelong learning began they day they started in these wonderful centres.
