Mrs. Kidd is staying at Huron. The district reversed their decision and she will be back in her classroom where she belongs. I am feeling overwhelmed by this relief and I hope we stay alert to keep arts education strong in our halls.
Please read this note in its entirety.
In case you did not know, today, May 20th, Mrs. Kidd announced that she is being surplussed. This means that she will no longer be teaching at Huron beginning next year after helping to build up an amazing choral program over the past 19 years. This news is nothing short of shocking for those of us who have had the privilege to learn as much as we have from Mrs. Kidd over these precious years. As I tried to process this very sad news, I questioned how an individual as talented, caring, dedicated, and competent as Mrs. Kidd could be subjected to this situation.
Most people understand that with the state of our economy and a declining population, spending on things such as education and the arts will suffer. What does not make sense, is that someone with the credentials, demonstrated commitment, and measurable contribution of Mrs. Kidd could be reassigned to a less desirable position. As an innumerable amount of you know, Mrs. Kidd not only builds fantastic choirs, but she also teaches her students life lessons such as integrity and honesty. By reading, agreeing, and signing this petition, we urge those who make decisions to reconsider the situation involving Mrs. Bonnie Kidd. I assure you that if you make a merit-based decision, the entire school district will benefit.
Thank you in advance for your attention and thoughtfulness.

Mrs. Kidd has taught us for nineteen years and watching her career be discarded this way is heartbreaking. We are about to hit one hundred signatures so please post this link on your social media right now to show the district she belongs at Huron.
