Worcestershire County Council is proposing to close ‘Moule Close’ respite unit which provides overnight care for children and young people with autism & similar learning disabilities. It was purpose built to meet the needs of these children and supports families county wide. The council is telling people that Moule Close will be replaced with more cost-effective alternatives, to allow ‘more choice’. However, these alternatives do not take any account of the specific needs of our children. The fact is that the alternatives are not fit for purpose and in closing Moule Close, the council will be taking away our ONLY option for respite care. Caring for our children can be exhausting. Moule Close gives parents the lifeline that allows them to recharge, and to continue to care for their child at home. Without it many of us would not be able to cope, and many of our children would be taken into full-time residential care. We are not just fighting to save Moule Close, we are fighting to keep our families together. We are asking the Council to reconsider this proposal and to keep Moule Close open.
