Do not change anything on Midland Road just because people text while driving and don't follow the speed limit. Leave the trees alone. They give Midland Road its character. It is an iconic road in Moore County. Change nothing about it.

I have lived in Moore County for over 40 years, thus I have been able to observe first-hand the changes that have occurred in the Southern Pines/Pinehurst area with the growth and development as well as the increase in traffic especially during particular hours of the day. In addition I have lived in a development on Midland Road for over 21 years. I realize that there are some improvements that could be done to help with both traffic and possibly help reduce accidents.
I believe that originally there were plans to cut down a large number of trees along the road. I am very much opposed to this. My personal thoughts are that the trees are not the problem rather it is the drivers. I have observed on many, many occasions drivers greatly exceeding the posted speed limit as well driving very recklessly. I think better enforcement of the posted speed limits would at least help to reduce some of the accidents. Perhaps eliminating a few of the trees that may be very close to the road would be acceptable however as I’ve already said I am greatly opposed to cutting large numbers of the trees. Regrettably reckless, inexperienced, distracted drivers will continue to have accidents no matter the location - trees or no trees.

My husband & I have been traveling to Southern Pines/Pinehurst for recreation (horses & golf) and entertainment for over 30 years from Apex. We will be moving to Moore County in 2018. To see/visualize Midland Road destroyed or changed, in any fashion, would certainly do a grave injustice to the beauty along this historical avenue! It would break my heart! I don't see the need! I've grown to know & love this area, and whenever I bring "guests" down, I ALWAYS bring them down Midland. They always see the beauty in it! And, I totally agree with the Petition that I am now signing.

I drive Midland Rd on a daily basis. The only time I see a problem is when a driver is texting or on their phone and not paying attention. Lowering the speed limit would be the ONLY change I would approve.

Consider reducing state costs on lighting so many highways also to give normal diurnal light patterns for mental health of humans and animals. Also allow native trees down centers of highways to reduce Ike's costs
