Dear Metalcamp 2012 organizers, It has come to our attention that the band Korn has been signed as one of the headliners for the Metalcamp 2012 festival. We kindly request that you please reconsider your selection. Metalcamp has long been regarded as the holy grail of European summer metal festivals for its location, atmosphere and band selection. Many festival goers come to Metalcamp from all over the world, saving their few vacation days and earnings all year to attend. Indeed, we consider it a pilgrimage. We come not only for the great festival but also to reconnect with dear friends from previous years and to meet new friends. True heavy metal, in all its forms, and its fans, are what made this festival great. We, the international metal-head community that attend MC, aim to keep it that way. While the band Korn and its members are accomplished performers in their own right we feel that their style of music has no place in a proper heavy metal festival. Furthermore, their signing would seem to indicate a slippery slope of Metalcamp turning into just another pop-star, cash-cow festival. Not to put too fine a point on it but as fans are alienated, their friends (your customers) are alienated along with them, unraveling the underlying social fabric and culture of the festival. The ultimate result of this migration towards popish bands will be the demise of the festival and the death of a beautiful tradition. Therefore we, the undersigned, petition you, the organizers of Metalcamp 2012, to please drop Korn from the Metalcamp 2012 line up and sign a real heavy metal band in its stead. We're certain that a different show, perhaps in Ljubljana, will generate plenty of revenue from those interested in seeing Korn. Together let's keep Metalcamp Metal, not Korny!
