SoLo/Germantown Civic Assoc./Friends of Loudoun

We the undersigned ask you to please reconsider deaccessioning the contents of Loudoun and explore ways to raise funds, keep the collection and open the house to the public as intended by the donor.

Loudoun home of Maria Dickinson Logan 4650 Germantown Ave Phila 19144 Donated to Fairmount Park upon her death 1939

Updates

June 19, 2016

I have spent hours reading through the history of Maria Dickinson Logan and the original intent behind her gift to the city. Your comments reminded me that we are protecting more than just objects because we are guarding the actual legacy of a woman who trusted Philadelphia with her home.

June 19, 2016

Seeing this level of support for Maria Logan's home reminds me how much this history belongs to all of us. I never expected so many people to feel this connection to Loudoun and it gives me real hope for saving the collection.

If this is indeed a property deeded to the public, it is badly managed as this tag sale demonstrates.

This is a public resource that should be open to the public - not taken by private interests. Keep the collection intact.

This would not be a good move. The intentions of a donor should be upheld most especially because there are so many other ways to accomplish the raising of funds without abandoning the merits of preservation and restoration. ~Mr. & Mrs. Les & Mary Morrow-Farrell of G'town.

i became aware of this wonderful asset in lower germantown near wayne junction by accident doing research about the area. there is no signage nor that it is a parks and recreation property/park. the deaccessioning process was established 23 years ago and in that time many of the players and capacities have changed. we want a chance to keep our history intact not lose its many assets atop the highest point in germantown on this most historic road, germantown avenue.

A community resource-please call upon the community to collectively care for or help design a plan to care for property.

I'm actually happy to see the house repurposed provided the new use doesn't take a heavy toll on the interior. I'm less happy to see the contents scattered and some even destroyed. Hope there's time to reconsider.

Germantown is rich with history and beautiful architecture. The city, preservationist, communities should keep it intack.
