Hello,
My name is Lincoln. I am the play lot connected to Lincoln Elementary, one of the finest schools in all of Chicago. I am nestled in a great residential community and have been a safe haven for neighborhood children for over 100 years!
Some fun facts about me:
- I am the only open air, play space in Chicago's Landmark Mid-North District
- I house 14 beautiful trees (more than 2/3 of the public trees on my block)
- I keep kids off of the street mornings, evenings, weekends and all summer long
Within weeks, CPS plans to build on top of me to help solve an overcrowding problem for all of my beloved friends at Lincoln Elementary. This solution was a surprise to the entire community, even supporters of expansion. As a result of the construction, I will be gone forever.
I am asking that you speak up before it is too late. The discussion became too negative and many of you were afraid to stand up for me as a result. We have a lot of very smart people in our community. There has to be another solution that solves for the overcrowding issue AND at the same time, keeps me in tact.

The momentum behind this effort proves that our community recognizes the value of keeping this green space intact. It is heartening to see so many people acknowledge that a long-term solution for our school must account for the preservation of this historical play lot.

my kids have been playing here since they were toddlers. we cant lose all this green space in our neighborhood. please look for another spot to build!
