I live in my houseboat at Gaswork Park Marina, I commute via bike, foot, or kayak to The Lake Union Building in Westlake for work and am a regular recreational user of Lake Union. I love the culture around the lake and the uniqueness it brings to Seattle - including the occasional sea-plane. However, this exclusive use by sea-planes would ruin a lot of what I love about Lake Union, so I am signing this petition.

The Sea Plane are loud and frequent, but I also think that they are commercially necessary. However, they certainly do no need to have a dedicated space or increased number of flights. I live aboard on SLU and find not only the planes but the screaming rowers at 6am an annoyance.

Lake Union belongs to boaters of all types. I sail, kayak and participate in Duck Dodge. For many people Lake Union is their introduction to boating and the beginning of a lifelong love of being on the water. This proposal would place limits on too many people and would be a detriment to the boating community.

Never have I witnessed or heard of a seaplane colliding with a boat on Lake Union, even on the busiest of days. How could this landing strip be necessary? As it is there is plenty of room on the lake.

Seaplanes have coexisted with all the other lake users for years. There’s no need to segregate them now. And if segregation IS deemed necessary, it’s unfair and inappropriate to dedicate a huge part of prime lake to one user group.

These flights are for tourists not business travel. Also they burn a lot of fuel and therefor Co2 emissions! Get more tourists on sailboats not planes!

Lake Union is where I learned to sail. Having a lake that’s such a great source of recreation right in the middle of the city is something that makes Seattle special. The lake belongs to ALL citizens and should remain accessible to everyone. Putting a giant runway down the middle will rob citizens of the ability to utilize the lake. In a city where stress and overall mental health are a hot topic it seems foolish to cut off something that is such a source of joy for so many. Seaplanes have been able to utilize the lake for decades without incident, there is no reason but greed to mark off so much of the lake for private use.

The lake is a public space for all to enjoy. Privatization of one piece of it for a seaplane company is an outrageous notion. This proposal would benefit the small numbers of wealthy who can afford flights and homes in the islands and hurt the masses who enjoy the lake and all activities it affords.

Strongly doubt hundreds more flights per day, but they can't just declare a section of lake theirs, it's public space, and I guarantee infrequent boaters are going to ignore it anyway.
