I have lived in the heart of Lakeview, on Halsted for the last 6 years. Lakeview has an air sophistication, while encompassing a bohemian and somewhat eccentric values and ideas. This contrast is what makes lakeview what it is. Here we have everything from a community center supporting all members of the LGBTQ and even straight community, it doesn't matter who you are, you can find support there. There are countless mom and pop business. Selling everything from clothes, wine and sexual items, there are coffee shops, vegan restaurants, bars, where in the summer you see people walking around holding or eating outside at one of the countless restaurants. There is even an old fashioned ice cream stores. Though recently there have been massive amounts of change taking place. The walmart has been able to come in, right under people's noses and build a small "test" location on Broadway between addison and waveland. this may not seem like much, but they have a habit of putting stores out of business, business owners I've spoken with sound incredibly nervous and not sure what to do, do we really need 4 grocery stores with in a few block radius? It makes me wonder, what is worse a vacancy, or a single store front re-opened but resulting in the closing and vacancy. potentially detramentrial effect on the beauty of the quaint community. they want to put in a 15 story building that overshadows much of the area with a style that is very stark in comparison with the rest of the neighborhood. not This includes 700 residents. While they will not be closing the ihop, it is stil a hugely negative choice. Dog parks or just a park is needed locally. ts, although it will not be getting rid of the Ihop or Church, it stay in place. the building is at grace and broadway.
