As of October 2011 it has been announced that 15 buildings of the abandoned Kings Park Psychiatric Center will be demolished. These buildings have a misunderstood history and architecture that is unique to the area. Although these buildings are the subject of illegal entry by visitors they are not believed to have any value, and because of this the state has allocated $15 million dollars to destroy them. It can be argued, however, that these buildings do have value in their decay by giving the townspeople and park visitors a view that is both surreal and sublime. This petition will ask Sen. John Flanagan of the State of New York to rethink his decision about substituting these unique spaces for conventional ones.
