We, the undersigned, take exception - if not offense - to the "reorganization" of ISU Extension, believing that it amounts to a gutting of over 100 years of world-class statewide university extension, undermines services primarily to rural areas where services are most needed, deprives communities, organizations, and individuals of much-needed support and resources, and, worst of all, was avoidable.
Furthermore, the present restructuring scheme flies in the face of ISU Extension's stated beliefs: quality, access, diversity, and accountability, as well as their professed dedication to engagement, entrepreneurship, and - most obviously of all - local presence.
This "restructuring" stands to severely impair ISU Extension's stated mission, which reads:
"ISU Extension builds partnerships and provides research-based learning opportunities to improve quality of life in Iowa."
We call upon those to whom this petition is directed to take responsibility and do their part to save an Iowa icon - one of Iowa's foremost world-class and yet grass-roots organizations, as well as greatest assets.
I have been reading through the comments all morning and honestly the stories about how these services actually impact people in our rural towns are just gutting to read. It feels like they are making these decisions from behind a desk in a vacuum while everyone else is left wondering where the support for their local projects went. I am still trying to pull together a formal response to send over to the admin office because their silence is getting pretty loud.

The numbers are creeping up and I really need us to find that extra gear because if we hit two hundred fifty soon it will actually force a conversation with the people in charge. My coffee is already cold and I keep checking the screen but if everyone here just grabbed one neighbor or a friend who actually cares about rural services the momentum would be unstoppable.

We are getting dangerously close to triple digits and I keep refreshing the page like a maniac because I swear it moves faster when I do that. Please just drop a quick link to this somewhere because if we can hit that hundred mark before the end of the day it might actually force them to acknowledge we are still paying attention to this nonsense.

This is ridiculous. Rural iowa depends on these offices. Stop cutting everything just to save a buck.

My family has used the extension services for years. They are throwing away a huge part of what makes iowa work. Very disappointed.
