The Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation has officially decided to abandon the plan for a bus turnaround on Miller Point. This outcome preserves the forest and honors the history of the park in the way we all hoped it would. Thank you for staying committed to this quiet …

We the undersigned oppose the Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreations plan to build a tourist bus parking / turnaround in the forested area between the campground and the Ready Ammo Bunker on Miller Point in Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park. We urge Alaska Parks to instead use other, less intrusive alternatives to provide visitor access to the historical structures on Miller Point. These alternatives may include: routing tour buses around the point in a loop on existing historic military roads, expanding the RV Overflow Parking Lot to allow for bus turnarounds and parking, or using smaller shuttle buses to move disabled visitors to Miller Point from staging areas.

Petition will be to sent to:
Director James King, Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation
550 W 7th Ave., Suite 1380, Anchorage, AK 99501-3561, (907) 269-8700, fax: (907) 269-8907, [email protected]

My kids play here all summer. We love the history but we dont need a massive parking lot destroying the bunker area.

Keep the bus traffic out of our woods. We go there for the peace and quiet not for exhaust fumes and congestion.

RIDICULOUS idea. There is plenty of room at the overflow lot. Leave the forest floor alone.

The existing military roads handle traffic just fine. Why waste taxpayer money to destroy part of the park?
