The Hawai'i Board of Education (BOE) and Hawai'i Department of Education (DOE) believe that Families for REAL "does not directly service the children of Hawai'i." Therefore, they plan to no longer fund this very important curriculum-based program. Families for REAL sites provide early learning curriculum and opportunities, which are mandated by Act 259. This decision jeopardizes the opportunities that will provide for the healthy development of our keiki.
We, the undersigned parents and community members, call upon our State Legislators, the BOE, the State Superintendent of Education, and the DOE to find solutions to continue the Families for REAL curriculum so that our children and families will not be left behind.

How can they say it doesnt service the children?? That makes zero sense. Someone needs to wake up and look at the actual results.
This program helped me so much when my kids were toddlers. You cannot just cut funding for our keiki. Fix this now.
Ridiculous decision. Early learning is the only way to make sure these kids are ready for school. Keep the funding.
Family for REAL matters! My nephew learned so much there and it gave my sister support she really needed at the time.
So sad to hear this. We need more resources for local families not less. Please reconsider.
