Music services have suffered enough over the past few years

It is essential that East Renfrewshire Council reconsiders this disastrous proposal. The current fantastic Instrumental Service employs several tutors who are recognised across the length and breadth of the UK as being the best in their field. They offer our young people a truly inspirational educational experience. We are fast approaching Christmas and schools will be preparing for their end of term celebrations. All of these are only possible because of the brilliant support given to schools by the visiting tutors. Christmas in the future will be very dull without their input and support given selflessly in their own time. It would be criminal if this amazing opportunity was denied to future generations because of ill thought through cuts just now. Once lost it will never be reinstated. Please East Ren - think again.

Music tuition in schools is vital to the health of our society and the music industry is a big contributor to the economy. Secondary is too late to begin most instruments and the orchestras and bands should be a great source of pride to any region/council. Let's show that we can see the big picture in Scotland please.

I am wholeheartedly behind this petition. Music enriches the lives of those fortunate enough to study it and has benefits far beyond just learning to read music. Plenty of studies have shown the link between music studies and improved grades in the core subjects, particularly maths. Added to that are the benefits students gain when playing in ensembles such as learning to work as a team, increased self confidence and self motivation.

It would be tragic to cut this invaluable service. Not only does it contribute massively to educational achievement and attainment, but it fosters self confidence and self motivation in our young people - our future.

Because music tuition allowed me to become the person I am today. Without any instrumental service I wouldn't have travelled to new places and met so many new friends along the way.

If you want to reduce the attainment gap don’t cut back an element of education which is scientifically proven to raise attainment!

My daughter had wonderful opportunities and tuition with the music service and it would be extremely detrimental should this be scaled back

Making cuts which impacts on young children is not a positive move and sends out the wrong right message about the value of music and creativity, contributing to their health and wellbeing and all the skills that they achieve through making music at this level.
