Davis is the one place on campus that feels like home. The people there are family. Taking that away is like taking my home away from home.

The residents in Davis have always been super kind and welcoming to everyone, I have never heard of or felt exclusion from them, and have never heard anything but positive reactions towards Davis. Also there are to many wellness spaces on campus to begin with; people who don’t even want to be in wellness are forced to be, it’s getting ridiculous.

Dear Res Life,
Every single international student should have the right to access the comforting, warm, loving haven that is Davis House. Wheaton does not need yet another wellness dorm: it needs more places fostering international exposure, global awareness, transcontinental partnerships and friendships FOR ALL - regardless of their GPAs / living habits. Your project goes directly against the open-door mentality this house was built upon. By purposefully confining and limiting the access to this house, you prove to everyone that you do not understand the experience of being an international student at Wheaton College, and as such, why Davis should remain as is. You do not realize that something as trivial as an evening gathering in the living room or the garden, with fellow friends, dancing to the music of our countries far away from home enables us international students to share our upbringing, experiences and culture with our beloved counterparts. These treasured moments are memories any Davis inhabitant (regardless of the generation) will cherish forever as some of their favourite Wheaton moments. And anybody, regardless of their GPA or whether they’re a late owl or not, should have access to this.
Further, it is difficult to conceive of Davis as disappointing when its inhabitants have a track record of consistently being in positions of leadership on this campus, and have always been active partakers in the life of Wheaton College - at any hours of the day, any day of the week, with any GPA.

Davis House played an exceptionally important role in shaping my positive experience at Wheaton as a student caring about cultural diversity and inclusion. I met and lived with students of many cultural, national, and ethnic backgrounds who embraced Davis as a uniquely student-led community synonymous with international inclusivity on campus. I believe that it would be severely detrimental to international students looking for an inclusive and supportive environment on campus for this house to be repurposed or run by Residential Life. I would strongly urge the administration to look at the history of the organization and seek the opinion and feedback of former Davis House residents before making a hasty decision to end such a longstanding institution. I believe that most would agree that it would be a travesty to take away this vibrant community’s critically important autonomy as a student-run theme house, and a serious blow to the inclusion and acceptance of a community which is integral to the soul of Wheaton. Davis House is Wheaton.

If res life decides to strip this house it will not only be taking Davis house’s mission away but will also be violating Wheaton colleges mission statement of promoting diversity on campus. STOP
