Living at Davis house senior year was the highlight of my time at Wheaton and the community and friends I made through Davis was the only thing keeping me from transferring schools. It is an inclusive, welcoming space to all students and it would be a shame to get rid of it.

This is a removal of a safe space for international students. I view this as a clear message stating that spaces that don’t directly benefit American students, or aren’t primarily made for American students aren’t valued on campus. That act in itself is anti-American and America is strengthened through the support of International bodies. This is wrong and we shouldn’t have to sign a petition to have a space and belong on campus.

This is the place I 1st felt at home at Wheaton, I had a pretty bad experience my 1st semester and when I moved to Davis the spring of my freshmen year, I really like it. It's not fair that Wheaton wants to take that away to students like myself. I would be living there right now if I wasn't an RA. What particularly bothers me with this is the fact that there is no alternative and to me just shows that the school values their overall outlook and not for the students.

While I did not officially live at Davis House during my time at Wheaton, it was most certainly a place of sanctuary and acceptance. It was a place I could have intellectually stimulating conversations, embrace cultures, and feel safe. Students who have embraced Davis as their home and have such positive impacts on the Wheaton community BECAUSE of this space. It’s a disgrace for Wheaton to be tearing apart spaces for students in the minority. Whether it’s race or citizenship, we are living in a critical time where students need these safe spaces where an affinity is shared. Thank you for listening to my TedTalk. Goodbye.

Dear reslife, this is the only place on campus where people can pronounce my name right and where i don’t have to pretend my name is andrew/edwin and that goes for many people.

Getting rid of the original mission of the Davis theme house would be a travesty and detrimental to the community as a whole. This space has served as a safe inclusive place for not only international students, but anyone who has an ethnicity that deviates from the “norm.” This welcoming environment has shown love and support to the entire community in many forms, including all campus events that speak on current social events, to something as simple ( but important) as hosting an all acapella group hangout.

We as a community are better than this. Come on Wheaton Admin.

The petition was created as a result of statements that were mentioned by Reslife during a meeting that occurred between Res Life and the Davis Exec board. These statements are what was mentioned in our petition. We as a house felt that the removal of our home was very sudden and out of the blue. The house was told during the meeting that we didn’t fulfill our requirements however on what ground? Last semester alone Davis had done 6 events, which shows a lot of growth in comparison to previous years. It seems that the house was always going to be removed and the lateness of the application was used as leverage to push forward with the cancellation. The house’s intention is not to cause any issues but to be heard instead of being seen as falsely advertising and “bonkers”. We wanted to be considered and recognized instead of having a band-aid ripped off without any warning. After a follow-up meeting with res life after the petition was put out, they retracted most of their statements and clarified how they would be moving forward with the house. There was a clear miscommunication between Res life and the house regarding various changes and statements. Whether Res Life changed their statements after seeing the petition is unclear. However, we needed to make our point about keeping the culture, environment, and traditions of the house the same through the use of this petition. Davis is willing to cooperate with Global Ed and Res Life as long as the nature of the house is kept intact. - Davis House
