I write this petition on December 9th, 2011. This is but one day after the last episode of Community (at least for now) before it goes on hiatus. Community is by far the funniest tv show on the air right now, its parodies are spot on, the humor on different levels than you see on any other programs, its cast is phenomenal, and last night's Christmas episode (a very obvious parody of Glee and less obvious parody of the body snatchers) was fantastic. However, in order for NBC to clear up their Thursday night schedule so that 30 Rock can return, they are putting the rest of the season on hold (though supposedly it is all still being filmed, but this doesn't help any aspects of the future of the series), and keeping the abysmal new series Whitney in the Thursday nigh lineup. Community is one of the few shows where you can look at it and come to the conclusion of when and where the series should end, it all takes place at a community college, and we've been witnessing the characters move up a year in college from season to season. Logically then, the show should run four years, you could argue five if they all failed a class the final year, but four would definitely work perfectly. This season is season number three, by putting the series in this kind of danger, they risk ending it prematurely and so close to the right time to end it at that. When it airs on television it doesn't get the kind of ratings NBC wants, but I would argue that because of the younger generation that the show is geared toward, it is being watched by and large online more often than on television. With that theory in mind, I designed this petition so that we could show NBC the support this show has behind it. Please, if you believe like me that this show should not even be put on hiatus, sign this petition. And to who's job it is at NBC to make such decisions, consider instead putting the show Whitney on hiatus if not altogether canceling it. I know opinions are objective, but you would be very hard pressed to find someone that finds Whitney funnier or more enticing than Community. -Mike Whiting
