Save Clyde Coastguard
This petition is being organised in response to proposals by Mr Philip Hammond MP (Transport Secretary for HM UK Government) and the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) to scrap 24hr Rescue Centre services within the River Clyde and West of Scotland. Within the proposals are that MRCC Clyde (Greenock) will be closed, as will a number of other existing Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centres (MRCCs) in favour of a single Maritime Operations Centre (MOC) in Aberdeen. This effectively means that, if allowed to happen, emergency calls requiring coastal rescues would be transferred 200 miles away in Aberdeen. We strongly believe that the UKs budget reviews are penny-pinching from an important and vital Emergency service in the West of Scotland. What cost will the UK Government put on lives lost as a result of these plans? Sign the petition and voice your concerns at our facebook campaign group : http://www.facebook.com/groups/saveclydecoastguard/?ap=1 Apparently, the main concern is the current site of Clyde Coastguard only has a short-term future and this seems to have trumped all rational thinking then decided the fate of the station. Clyde Coastguard has been proven to be the BUSIEST centre of all mainland Scottish centres and ranks highly overall for UK centres. Yet, no alternatives have been provided and many full-time and part-time Coastguard staff dedicated to keeping people safe at sea on this busy River, are set to lose their jobs as a result. Please sign our petition which we plan to present to Number 10 Downing Street and the Transport Minister Phillip Hammond. Hands off Clyde Coastguard! Thanks for your support...
