Our history is our history and it comprises some proud moments and some not-so-proud moments but it is our true history. Why must this be an "either or" and not an "and" moment? Both sides of our combined history should be represented - change the plaque explaining who Calhoun was acknowledging the good and the bad of his history. The Georgia Historical Society recently confirmed that Calhoun Square was NOT a burial ground for enslaved people and that should make the argument to rename on that basis moot.

We must retain all of our history, not just what portions are trendy today. We build upon and grow with our foundations, we should not attempt to pull out selective cornerstones.

Wake up Savannah, next it will be Gordon St and monument, Bull st, Harris St, removal of Nathaniel Greene monument. All were slave owners. This part of our history and talking point. Good and bad.

I visit this square nearly every day. I have lived in Savannah since 1979.

There is no reason to wipe history away !

I am against the Salvation Army's building the 'Weeping Time' Projects for the same reason I am against renaming Calhoun Square. We need to learn from History, not erase it. Don't make Orwell's nightmare become reality.

You cannot rewrite history and you cannot rename a historical square. Let the thing speak for itself! We all learn from the wrong we have done so allow Calhoun Square to teach us all.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Slavery has not been eliminated. It thrives even today. Sex slavery is condoned by many who condemn statues and names of people from an era that suppressed their morals for alterior motives just like those of today.
